20,636 Reviews. Modern Warfare 4 Already Failed Once.

Modern Warfare 4 has two Steam pages, and only one is getting quoted.

The main store page sits at 91% positive from 2,264 reviews. The beta page, still live, reads Mostly Negative: 7,132 positive and 13,504 negative out of 20,636 reviews. Roughly 35% positive.

Same developer. Same engine. Same multiplayer launching Friday, Oct. 23. The score didn't move because the game got fixed. It moved because the only thing open now is the mode nobody complained about.

The Complaint List Is Already Written

Players in August's two beta weekends weren't vague. Movement felt overwhelmingly fast. Time-to-kill was so short players had no time to react. Skill-based matchmaking broke the core loop. Those aren't nitpicks.

What should worry Activision: the score didn't budge when the audience changed. A pre-order crowd, favorably disposed by definition, and a cold open-door crowd landed in the exact same place. Forty-five percent negative across two different populations is the kind of signal publishers treat as pattern, not fluke.

Infinity Ward addressed footstep volume, weapon lethality, and spawn logic. Notice what's missing: time-to-kill and skill-based matchmaking—the two complaints players named first.

The Silence Doing the Talking

Activision has been precise about scheduling the beta to the minute. It won't explain why it scored 45% negative.

Neither Activision nor Infinity Ward has published a statement addressing the reviews.

The review-bomb clock everyone was waiting for already went off in August.

Full launch stacks harder. Campaign early access shipped Oct. 16. DMZ early access Oct. 20. Full multiplayer Friday, Oct. 23. And there's no Game Pass escape hatch softening the blow—the Standard Edition costs $69.99. Every angry multiplayer reviewer paid full price to show up.

What to watch: the main Steam page's score starting Friday, Oct. 23, when multiplayer reviews hit the same pool as campaign's 90%. If it holds near 80%, Infinity Ward actually fixed TTK and matchmaking. If it slides back toward 35-45%, the campaign's warm welcome was a preview window, not a verdict.
