JPMorgan Just Raised Apple to $360. It Has Almost Nothing to Do With the Air

The bank just raised its Apple price target. The bullish logic leans on an unconfirmed foldable, not the iPhone Air 2 gadget media keeps writing about this week.

JPMorgan's $360 Apple Call Rests on a Phone Nobody's Confirmed

JPMorgan raised Apple's price target to $360 this week. Read the actual note and the bullish case has almost nothing to do with the iPhone Air 2 that gadget media can't stop publishing.

Three separate Apple stories collapsed into one supercycle narrative this week, and only one of them has Apple's fingerprints on it.

The Phone Actually in the Note

JPMorgan analyst Samik Chatterjee raised the price target to $360 from $340, arguing that supplier cuts reflect new launch cadence, not weakness. Translation: units are falling, but we've decided to call that strategy.

The device doing the heavy lifting isn't the Air 2. JPMorgan expects 8.5 million iPhone Duo units in December—the rumored foldable, a different device. iPhone shipments overall: 69 million units, down 18% year-over-year, offset by a forecast 20% rise in average selling price.

Fewer phones, priced higher, dressed up as growth.

That's not demand. That's a pricing assumption wearing a demand costume.

Apple Confirmed Something. It's Not a Phone.

Apple did confirm something this week. The company announced a "Welcome home" product launch for Tuesday, October 13, with a HomeView smart display, HomePod mini 2, and updated Apple TV 4K. It is also, explicitly, not about the iPhone.

Three products. Three different confidence levels. One headline pretending they're the same story.

The iPhone Air 2 sits in pure rumor territory. The Information reported in November that Apple had indefinitely delayed the second-generation model due to lower-than-expected sales, then updated to say it's still in the works, reportedly landing in spring 2027 with a second camera and better battery life. Every spec comes from a leaker, not a keynote.

JPMorgan priced in a foldable nobody has seen. Apple confirmed a smart home event with no phones. The Air 2—the thing carrying the headline—remains exactly as unconfirmed as last month, just with more traffic attached.

If you're holding AAPL on the Air 2, you're holding it on the one product this week Apple said the least about.

What to watch: Apple's next earnings call for mentions of "new form factors" beyond the Duo. Tuesday's Welcome Home press releases for ship dates or slips. Whether JPMorgan's 69-million-unit, 18%-down iPhone forecast holds once real Duo and Air 2 numbers hit a 10-Q.
